The Columbia 30's design mandate was simple: fast, trailerable and comfortable. The result was a sport-yacht with:
- Planing hull with a fine entry (speed)
- Retractable, high-aspect ratio keel for easy lifting (trailerability) and maximum stability (speed and safety)
- High-aspect rudder (stability, ease of sailing)
- Powerful, but easy to handle sailplan
- Comfortable, dual-use cockpit (comfortable seats with seat backs for the crew, and a spacious helmsman's area, including stainless-steel foot chocks for balance while heeled)
- Deep, self-bailing cockpit (offshore safety and crew comfort)
- Three point rig (no backstay – rig tension/adjustment via highly swept spreaders)
- Clean, uncluttered deck layout/hardware placement (easy sailing)
- Carbon fiber bowsprit on centerline for easily handled asymmetrical spinnakers
- Comfortable interior means that your crew/family want to come back (standing headroom, 4 berths, enclosed proper marine head, sink, optional stove, settee to seat 4 and centerline teak table)
- Hanging locker in forward v-berth area for easy stowage
- Inboard diesel saildrive for bulletproof reliability and robust performance (large, sealed engine compartment gives plenty of engine access and keeps diesel odor out of the cabin)
