Challenger

The Columbia Challenger was developed to compete with the popular west coast Cal 20. The Challenger is a raised deck design based on the popular Columbia 24. The Challenger used the same hull and sail plan with an all new deck and interior. The brochure described the new boat:

“The streamlined simplicity of this type of deck affords a substantial savings in production cost, as well as the largest cockpit area imaginable for a boat of this size. The COLUMBIA CHALLENGER is indeed a product of sheer ingenuity and engineering, and a real value if not a real beauty.”

Thousands of Challengers were built between 1962 and 1968, making the Columbia Challenger one of the company’s more popular boats.
